LEY LINES: An Earth Mystery
Elda Lantz, Prs.H., ArchDrs., GDC, SPrsA
When I was a little girl, I found myself entranced with the stories of my maternal family as told
by my mother, Mildred Oleta Taylor-Lantz. One of these stories was about how my grandfather, H.D. Taylor was able to use a
forked branch from a willow tree to find water. Years later, when I re-opened to my Spiritual Path, I would learn this gift
of Granddad’s was called dowsing. For those who are unaware, dowsing is the intuitional ability or technique used to
locate Earth energy, or in Grandad’s case, water energy.
A combination of events this year, led me back to those memories and the vision of Granddad holding his willow
branch. First, was the gift of Twisting Willow branches (brought out to California from the Sequatchie Valley of Tennessee
… where my great-grandparents, Jerome Pope Beavert and Elmira Reed-Graves, lived prior to moving to Arkansas)…they
are all thriving and promise to become beautiful trees; the second, the story line in The DaVinci Code regarding the
Rose Ley Line; and third, an e-mail posted to the Spiral Web of the Fairy Tree forum by ArchDruidess Minette Quick regarding
an experience on her property involving ley lines. These events reminded me of some of my earlier Metaphysical work with Earth
energies, how our environment is ever changing, and how our Sacred Spaces could be interconnected by energy strings….energy
strings known as ley lines.
You might ask, “Just what is a ley line?” Ley lines are hypothetical alignments of various places
of geographical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths.
It has long been suggested that ley lines are places of power. Britian has two main ley lines:, St. Michael
and St. Mary, which run through the country dissecting major sacred sites…such as Avebury, Glastonbury and Stonehenge
. Another way of looking at ley lines is to imagine an electromagnetic grid of the Earth -- like the meridians of the human
body. If this is true, then why can’t we use they ley lines to heal the Earth of Her many ills? We’ll answer that
question shortly.
According to my research into ley lines it is believed that they are extremely related to Light. They penetrate
and leave the Earth vertically at what are known as “nodes”, also known as “power centers” or “vortexs”.
When a ley line enters the Earth it penetrates to approximately 265 feet. It then makes a 90 degree right-angle turn and travels
in a straight line, a “as the crow flies” and always to a depth of 265 feet!
The average length of a ley line is between 20-30 miles, although there are some ley lines that are only a
few feet and length and others that cover several thousand miles. The width of the line varies, however 5 1/2 feet is an average.
The Romans built their road 5 1/2 feet wide.
How does one find a ley line? Ley lines, like water lines, can extend up through the Earth and into buildings.
It has been observed that a person who sits or lies over a ley line for very long tends to become hyperactive. This can help
if a person has low energy, but for someone who is already energetic, it can have an adverse effect.
People who have experienced ley line energy say that it is energizing. Others see a glowing line that goes
with the direction of the energy flow.
An interesting fact about power centers: At every point where ley lines enter the Earth (known as in shoots)
and at approximately 70% of the nodes where they leave the Earth (known as outshoots), there is a spring. These springs seem
to be a universal prerequisite for power centers.
The existence of ley lines was first suggested in 1921 by amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins. Watkins published
four books regarding his work: Early British Track ways (1922), The Old Straight Track (l1925), The Ley Hunters
Manual (1927) and Archaic Tracks Around Cambridge (1932). Watkins theorized that a pattern of interconnected straight
lines criss-crossed England. These lines were derived from the Stone Age, when people traveled the country by following tracks
straight from one landmark to the next visible one. He also theorized that these lines were related to the seasonal positions
of the sun, especially the solstices, and the moon. In many cases, settlements were built around pehistoric monuments such
as standing stones, circles and chambered cairns on these lines and at the junction of these lines. Subsequent generations
maintained the pattern so that a ley line could include churches, sacred trees, wells, beacon hills, forts, crosses, fords
and bridges … and ceremonial sites during the Stone and Bronze Ages.
The term “ley” is an Anglo-Saxon word meaning “cleared glade”. It is a form of the
word “lea” meaning “track of open ground”, or “meadow”.
Ley line networks can be found throughout the world. There are some cases which incorporate elaborate circles,
like spokes of a wheel, and within the circle are a myriad of lines intersecting each other.
In conclusion, to answer a question mentioned earlier in this article, how can we use ley lines to heal Mother
Earth. In my heart, I believe that if we become aware of a power center in our area, we can concentrate our energy work on
that center. If, we are correct in our assumption that ley lines intersect each other, then with enough energy being focused
on the Earth at Her various power centers, eventually, this energy will build upon itself and indeed begin to heal what is
needed within the Earth. And as with humans, and our animal friends, we know, that healing begins within and finds its way
to without (esoteric to exoteric). Thus, if we dedicate ourselves to work on one Sacred Site, then our combined consciousness
will work to heal and protect all Sacred Sites.
Remember, if you do nothing, eventually the Earth will be no more, but if you walk gently upon Her and join
your energy with Hers…..all will be as it should be. If you do nothing…..then nothing is what you become.
